Vanessa L. Ballentine, 55, was born April 30, 1957 in Elyria, to Minister Bertha L. West and Aron Willis. Our Father decided to call her home Friday, January 18, 2013.

Being raised in the church as a young soul dedicated her life to God and many others, providing shelter, love, and guidance for all God’s Children with an open door policy to her home (literally). She was a dedicated advocate for children and wore many hats in multiple professions that catered to helping others.

Mom attended elementary and graduated high school in Chicago, Illinois and obtained various degrees. She was raised in Chicago and relocated to her birth place Elyria. Mom was a prayer warrior who prayed for all souls.

Mom leaves behind three sons, Johnny Willis (Kimberly), Mr. and Mrs. Demetrius and Jovanna Willis, Harold Willis (Latoya); two nieces, Arrika Smith and Domonique Smith; nine siblings, Gwendolyn of Chicago Illinois, Reva of San Diego, California, Karene’ of Chicago, Illinois, Cassie of Chicago, Illinois, Terrence of Ohio, Michael and Sandy of Columbus, Faye of St. Paul, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and multiple adopted children and grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, great and cousins to cherish her memories.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Ballentine; parents, Minister Bertha L. West and Aron Willis; grandson, Hayden Willis; siblings, Pandora, Dinah and Kerry; great nephew, Jermiah Allen Smith.

Friends may call Monday, January 28, 2013 at 11 A.M. until time of service at 12 Noon in the Unity Baptist Church, 326 Fuller Rd., Elyria, where Elder Willis Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
