Nearly three months after superstorm Sandy blew the roof off St. Anthony School, a celebration was held Sunday to mark the reopening of the school.
Dozens of students, parents and parishioners toured the renovated school. The school, at 1305 E. Erie Ave. next to Lake Erie, was hit by fierce winds from Sandy on Oct. 30. The school sustained a few hundred thousand dollars in damage, including drenched computers and SmartBoards, said the Rev. Richard Hudak.
While repairs were being done, the 247 kindergarten through eighth-grade students were relocated to St. Thomas the Apostle School at 715 Harris Road in Sheffield Lake. Hudak said in November that he was grateful to community members, parents and parishioners for helping with the relocation, donating school supplies and offering temporary housing. Hudak on Sunday blessed the renovated school.
