Doris Lillian Holmes (nee Thompson), 93, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 at Center Ridge Health Care Campus, North Ridgeville, following a lengthy illness. She resided in Salem, Ohio, since 1967 and was born July 26, 1919 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Doris was a homemaker and worked as a cook throughout the community. She played the guitar, sang with a trio as a young lady in Canada and in church, enjoyed plants and flowers, feeding the birds and watching them. Her life was centered on serving Christ and attending Holiness Church services. She attended Harvest Fellowship Church of the Nazarene in Grafton.
Mrs. Holmes is survived by her daughter, Erma Wood (Rev. Max Wood) of Grafton; son, Wayne Holmes of Six Lakes, Michigan; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorene (Cuddy) Harlowe of Ontario, Canada; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Manley Earl Holmes; brother, Orville Thompson; and parents, Ezra and Edna Thompson.
Friends may call 6 to 9 P.M., Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the funeral home. Rev. Max Wood, Harvest Fellowship Church of the Nazarene, will officiate. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Beloit, Ohio.
