Man pulled from Avon pond has died

AVON — A man has died after rescue crews pulled him from a retention pond near The Village at Avon apartment complex.

Avon Fire Chief Frank Root said Allen Tibai, 54, a resident of the apartment complex, was walking his dog around 7 p.m. Wednesday. When Tibai didn’t return home, his wife called police.

Officers arrived to find Tibai in the pond near 36550 Chester Road. Root said firefighters were called to the area at 10:24 p.m., and police pulled Tibai’s unconscious body out less than a minute after arrival.

According to Avon Police, Tibai suffered from various medical conditions, including vertigo, but they did not know how he got in the pond.

He was transferred to Avon Emergency Care Center, but doctors were unable to revive him.

Root said the man’s dog was sitting near the pond when rescue crews arrived.
