Burl E. Phillips

Burl E. Phillips, 78, a resident of North Ridgeville since 1977, died Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Olmsted Manor Care Center, North Olmsted, in the presence of his family. He was born September 25, 1934 in Boone, North Carolina, to the late George and Alma (nee Greene) Phillips.

He married Carol (nee Walsh) August 28, 1965 and she lovingly survives. Also left to cherish his memory are his children, Patricia (Chris) Turay of North Ridgeville, Lisa (Robert Jr.) LeBlanc Becaj of Olmsted Falls, and Christine (Hoyt) Mis, Medina; grandchildren, Danielle, Cassidy, Meredith, Jamison, Evan, Griffin, Matthew and Natalie; brothers, Lloyd of Oak Hill, West Virginia and Earl (Mary Jane) of Brunswick; sisters, Mary Frances Blanks of Hampton, Virginia; Ruth Dorton of North Ridgeville, Sylvia Phillips of Orlando, Florida and Sheryl (Larry) Oliver of Scarbro, West Virginia; brother-in-law and dear friend, Dan (Anna) Walsh of North Olmsted; sister-in-law, Edith Phillips, North Ridgeville; niece, Amber Phillips of Weaverville, North Carolina; and many other dear nieces, and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, George and John Phillips; and sisters, Kate Byrd, Gladys Powers and Blanche Wilson.

Mr. Phillips retired in 1999, from Simpkins Industries, after 44 years of employment. A veteran of the United States Army, he was a member of North Ridgeville VFW Post 9871 Men’s Auxiliary. He was an avid runner and member of the Lorain County Runner’s Club. In his free time, Burl enjoyed watching horse racing, reading westerns, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a great fan of the Browns and Indians. Burl will be remembered as a good provider as the patriarch of his family and for his terrific sense of humor.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 6 to 8 P.M., Monday, February 4, 2013, at the North Ridgeville VFW, 6805 Lear Nagle Road, concluded with VFW memorial services and a sharing of memories at 8 P.M. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Western Reserve.
