Two killed in crash west of New London

FITCHVILLE TWP. — Two people died of injuries sustained in a collision of two pickups Saturday afternoon just west of New London.

Rodney Williams, 69, and Betty Williams, 66, both of North Fairfield and passengers in a pickup driven by Karlie Conaway, 15, of Greenwich, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to reports from the Norwalk post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred on state Route 162 at 2:18 p.m. just west of Town Line Road 79, when Conaway lost control of the westbound 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup she was driving, went left of center, and was struck in the eastbound lane by a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup driven by Troy Green, 40, of New London, reports said.

Both trucks went off the road following the crash.

Conaway and Rodney Williams, who were both in the front seat of the Dodge Dakota, were trapped in the vehicle, as was Betty Williams, who was in a rear seat.

New London Fire Department personnel freed all three, reports said.

Conaway and Green each sustained serious injuries, according to the patrol, and were taken to Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.

Conaway, Rodney Williams and Green were wearing seat belts.

Betty Williams was not, the patrol said.

Investigating troopers said there were no initial indications that alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident, which remains under investigation.
