Yvonne Michelle Gatchell (nee Starr), 54, of Wakeman, died Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Stein Hospice, Sandusky, due to complications of diabetes, kidney failure, heart problems and a stroke. She has had insulin dependent diabetes since January of 1992 and asthma since October of 2001.
Yvonne was born December 7, 1958 in Lorain, and had been a Wakeman resident for the past 21 years moving from Lorain. She graduated from Admiral King High School in Lorain in 1977 and attended Bowling Green State University from 1977-1979. She then started working as a medical and legal secretary.
Yvonne was a member of Lakeshore Community Church, Huron and enjoyed serving God in her church and her life. She was an avid reader, accomplished pianist and vocalist, loved classic movies, old BBC series, and sharing and caring for others. She was also a member of the American Diabetes Association.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Michael E. Gatchell of Wakeman; son, David Gatchell of Lorain; step father, Jim Azok of Sandusky; step father, Mike McLaughlin; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Nobuko Fukushima Nagase.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard J. Starr on March 21, 1992, her mother, Martha McLaughlin (nee Boise) July 9, 2012; and step father, Otto “Tony” Pasti in 1997.
Services will be private.
Riddle Funeral Home 5345 South St., Vermilion, is assisting the family with arrangements.
