Grimes indicted for murder in December death

ELYRIA — An Eaton Township man accused of killing a woman he described as his girlfriend has been indicted on murder and felonious assault charges.

Adam Grimes, 25, is accused of beating and strangling Melanie Hruby during an argument at his Avon Beldon Road home on Dec. 18. A friend of Grimes’ called 911 after he told her that he had “hurt or killed his girlfriend.” Hruby’s family has denied the pair was dating.

Grimes surrendered to Lorain County Sheriff’s deputies when they went to his house and according to testimony from one deputy, Grimes was unaware that he had killed Hruby.

He told police that the pair had been using crack cocaine and heroin together earlier in the day before an argument broke out when Hruby wanted to leave. He told deputies he hit Hruby and she struck back, so he hit her again, knocking her out. He later carried Hruby upstairs and choked her, deputies said Grimes told them.
