House fire kills puppy, causes $100K in damage

SHEFFIELD LAKE — Firefighters responded to a house fire at 3:36 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of Oakwood Avenue.

According to Sheffield Lake Fire Department, the kitchen was on fire when firefighters arrived.

There were no injuries to the occupants or fire personnel; however, a puppy died in the fire, the Fire Department said.

Estimated loss is $50,000 for the structure and $50,000 for contents inside the home.

The Fire Department said the house was not insured at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Mutual aid was provided by Sheffield, Avon, Avon Lake, Sheffield Township and Elyria Township fire departments.
