Mary S. Walker (nee Simko), 96, and a long time resident of Amherst, died Friday, February 8, 2013 at Elmcroft of Lorain following a brief illness. She was born in Van Meter, Pennsylvania, January 21, 1917, to the late George and Anna (nee Lengyle) Simko Pasko. In 1920, Mary moved to Lorain from Pennsylvania and relocated to Amherst in 1940, where she resided until moving to the Elmcroft.
Mary was a self employed beautician, working from her home in Amherst as the Walker Beauty Salon. Mary was a 72 year member of Amherst Congregational United Church of Christ.
Mary and her late husband, Ralph L. Walker, Sr., who preceded her in death on August 2, 2000, enjoyed camping, fishing, and gardening. Mary enjoyed crafts of all kinds.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Lou (Dan) Ritter of Amherst; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel (Berton) Nesbit of Amherst and Betty Ann Darin of Lorain; and her brother, Bill (Ann) Pasko of California.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her dad, John Pasko (May 1947); daughter, Donna Jean Novak (2011); son, Staff Sergeant Ralph L. Walker, Jr. (July 1983); brothers, John, George, and Michael Simko, Edward Pasko; sisters, Anna Reber, Helen Campbell, Margaret Dziama, and Julia Porciello.
Friends may call Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 1 to 5 P.M. at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. Funeral service will be Monday, February 11, 2013 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home, with Rev. Attila Szemesi, Pastor of Amherst Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
