Phyllis M. Reber (nee Guba), 72, of Avon, previously of Lorain, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at New Life Hospice, surrounded by her husband, son, and daughter. She was born June 15, 1940 in Lorain, to Frank and Mary (nee Geres) Guba, and was a graduate of Lorain High School.
Phyllis was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the former Holy Trinity Parish. She made her career as an office manager and bookkeeper for her husband’s dental practice, working until they both retired in September 2011, after 48 years.
Phyllis was very devoted to Lorain Catholic High School. She served on their Endowment Foundation, Education Commission, aided the teachers, and was always there to support and promote the success of the school. Phyllis was also a member of the Lorain County Dental Auxiliary and served a term as President, and volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital. She was a also a member of the Holy Trinity Seniors and enjoyed their monthly outings.
Phyllis was truly a gentle soul, kind and generous to everyone she met. She always went out of her way to help others and had such a calming presence and beautiful smile. Blessed with a talent and knack for decorating, she loved changing her home decor often. Decorating for all the holidays was always her passion. It didn’t matter what the holiday, she went all out. She took great pride in the fact that people would tell her how much they enjoyed passing her home to see what decorations would be up.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Dr. Ronald J. Reber; son, Randy (Kelly) of Brunswick; daughter, Pamela (Bill) Jones of Lorain; granddaughter, Megan Reber; grandsons, Matthew Reber, Austin Jones and Cole Jones; and brother, Richard Guba.
She was preceded in death by her son, Ron Reber; parents, Frank and Mary Guba; and her sister, Gloria Jean Middleton.
