North Ridgeville man pleads guilty to taking guns into theater

Scott A. Smith

The North Ridgeville man who carried guns into a showing a “The Dark Knight Rises” shortly after the massacre at a showing of the film in Aurora, Colo., has pleaded guilty to two counts of carrying concealed weapons.

But Scott A. Smith will go to trial on Wednesday on a single remaining charge of having weapons under disability, said Maria Russo, spokeswoman for Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty.

Smith had a loaded pistol, ammunition and four knives with him when he went to the movie at the Regal Cinemas theater in Westlake in August. His attorney has previously said he took the weapons as protection because of the mass shooting in Colorado.
