Show Your Heart Some Love…

Valentine’s Day is upon us and now is a great time to think a little deeper about your heart. When you take steps to love your heart, your Valentine AND your heart will thank you for years to come!

Do you know the numbers that matter to your heart's health?

  • Blood pressure
  • Cholesterol levels
  • Weight
  • Number of fruits and vegetables you eat a day
  • How often you’re physically active?

Ignoring your numbers is dangerous because...

  • Being overweight increases the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes.
  • High levels of triglycerides—a fat found in blood—can increase your risk of heart disease and stroke.
  • Cholesterol can build up and put you at risk of having heart attack.
  • High blood pressure increases the risk for heart disease and stroke.

Get to know your numbers with these small steps...

  1. Get a Blood Test through your Physician. Your Medical Provider will help you get to know your numbers and talk about what you should tackle first.
  2. Get your Blood Pressure Screened. LCGHD Blood Pressure Screening locations are listed at LorainCountyHealth.com or you can call 440.322.6367 to find out more information.
  3. Check your Body Mass Index (BMI). If you know your weight and height, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to use their online calculator at cdc.gov/healthyweight/assessing/BMI/index.html
  4. Use a pedometer. Visit Walks.LiveHealthyLorainCounty.com to start tracking your steps today!

Show some love to your heart this month by getting to know your numbers and taking small steps to improve - you deserve it!
