Katherine M. Hunger (nee Greer), 84, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013, at New Life Hospice Center, in Lorain, following a brief illness. She was born December 23, 1928 in Warrensville, North Carolina, to William and Florence Greer.
Katherine had made her home in Amherst for many years and graduated from Amherst High School. Her primary focus in life was that of being a homemaker. Katherine was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, in Lorain, were she served as a past deaconess. Her hobbies included gardening, decorating, entertaining friends and family and was an avid bowler.
Survivors include her son, and his wife, Ronald Frank and Della Hunger of Amherst; her daughter, Linda Kinsley of Sugarloaf, California; her grandchildren, Jason Clevenger and Heidi Carrilo; her brothers, Ken Greer of Huron, and Jerry Greer, and his wife Barb of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Frederick Frank Hunger on April 8, 2009; her parents, William and Florence Greer (nee Jones); her siblings, Bill Greer, Betty Brundrett and Robert Greer.
Friends may call Sunday, February 24, 2013 from 5 to 7 P.M., at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Additional calling hours will be held Monday, February 25, 2013 at 10 A.M., until the time of the funeral service at 11 A.M., at the funeral home . The Rev. Karen Farthing, Pastor of First Congregational United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
