Floyd Ray Horton, 82, of South Amherst, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013, at New Life Hospice Residence Center, following an extended illness. Floyd was born October 20, 1930, in Mississippi, moving to Ohio in early 1950s. South Amherst has been his home since 1960.
Floyd was self employed as a salesman for all of his working career. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Amherst, serving as a faithful usher. Floyd enjoyed watching football, especially the Cleveland Browns. He had a great love for people, but especially his wife and family.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 59 years, Lena B. Horton (nee Branscum): his sons, Kirk (Tami) Horton of Vermilion and Eric Horton of Apopka, Florida; three grandchildren, Kristopher, Kellie, and Keith Horton; and his brothers, Robert and William Horton, both of California.
Floyd was preceded in death by his brother, Loyd Horton; his sisters, Molly Rice and Jean Zander; and his parents, Henry and Maudie Horton (nee Harber).
Friends may call Tuesday, February 26, 2013, from 3 until 7 P.M., at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2013, 11 A.M., at the funeral home. The Reverend Arnold Fleagle, Pastor of Trinity Evangelical Free Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
