Indians 14, A’s 10: Tribe still perfect at 5-0

INDIANS (5-0) 14, A’s (1-2) 10

BRANTLEY BIT: Left fielder Michael Brantley left the game after sustaining a cut to his left forearm during a slide into third base on an unsuccessful attempt to stretch a triple. Brantley was cut by Oakland third baseman Josh Donaldson’s spike, receiving stitches at a nearby hospital. It doesn’t appear serious, but Brantley will likely miss some time.

THE BIG TWO: The top two starters in the rotation, Justin Masterson and Ubaldo Jimenez each tossed two scoreless innings in their exhibition debuts. Masterson was better, retiring the side in order in both of his innings, while adding a strikeout. Jimenez allowed two hits and a walk — all in his second inning of work.

HITS: Ryan Raburn stayed hot, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. He is 6-for-8 with three home runs, six RBIs and five runs this spring. … Yan Gomes drove in five runs with a homer and a double in two trips to the plate. … Reliever Vinnie Pestano pitched a scoreless fifth inning, allowing a hit and striking out one.

MISSES: Right-hander Frank Herrmann didn’t help his bid to win a spot in the bullpen, allowing four runs on five hits, including a two-run homer in the seventh. … Reliever Matt Capps also had a rough day, allowing two runs on three hits in one inning.
