Gordon R. Higgins, 89, of LaGrange, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange, following a long illness. He was born April 20, 1923 in Elyria, and was a lifelong Elyria resident.
Gordy was the owner of the former Higgins Electric Company in Elyria, for many years. He was a member of the Washington Avenue Christian Church in Elyria, and served in the United States Navy, during WWII. Following his retirement, he lived in Sanford, North Carolina for 25 years, and enjoyed flying and boating.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Shirley (nee Latterner); daughters, Patricia (Thomas) Spruill of Columbia, North Carolina, Stephanie (Don) Novak of Elyria, and Rae Ann (Travis) Womble of Sanford, North Carolina; sons, Gerald (Debra) Higgins of Grafton and Joseph (Tamera) Higgins of DuPont, Ohio; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Darlene Henes of Elyria.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 1, 2013 from 4 P.M. until the time of service at 7 P.M., at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The Rev., Dr. Janet Long, Pastor of Washington Avenue Christian Church, will officiate. Private burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
