2 new police officers sworn in today in Elyria

ELYRIA — Two new officers joined the ranks of the Elyria Police Department.

The officers, Matthew Craig, 29, and Mark Horton, 22, were sworn in during a ceremony Wednesday at Elyria City Hall. With the new hires, the police department has 84 officers until April or May when Elyria Police Capt. Chris Costantino expects two retirements.

Craig, who is from Lorain County, holds his Basic Peace Officers Certification. He will receive his orientation and begin the Field Training program March 11.

Horton, who is from the greater Cleveland area, will attend the Lorain County Community College Police Academy, beginning March 4. At the conclusion of the Police Academy, Horton will receive orientation and begin the Field Training program.
