Thomas Jay Hord, 68, of Spencer, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Hospice of Medina County. He was born in Akron, January 3, 1945, to Elmo and Janet E. (Courter) Hord and lived in the Spencer area for most of his life.
He was a 1963 graduate of Black River High School and received an Associate Degree from Lorain County Community College. Tom had worked at Fisher Guide in Elyria and and GM in Ontario, Ohio, retiring in 1999.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of the Spencer American Legion Post #608, Wellington Eagles and Black River Fullbackers. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing poker and attending his grandchildren’s football, basketball and soccer games.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannie, to whom he married August 28, 1965; daughter, Trisha (Bryan) Young of Spencer; son, Tom (Dawn) Hord of Spencer; three grandchildren, Autumn and Garrett Hord, and Austin Young; sister, Sandra (Bob) Strong of Wadsworth; and brother, Elmo Lee (Ruth) Hord of Strongsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Janet Hord.
Visitation will be Sunday from 6 until 8 P.M., at the Parker & Son Funeral Home, 202 East Main St., Spencer, (330-648-2180). A private family graveside service will be held at Spencer Cemetery. Reverend Reid Firestone will officiate.
