LORAIN — Police are investigating an incident late Saturday in which a teen at a party may have been shot.
The incident occurred about 11:40 p.m. outside the Moose Lodge on Fifth Street, which had been rented by a group of teenagers for a party, according to Lorain police spokesman Lt. Roger Watkins.
“We had a report of a shot being fired,” Watkins said.
When police arrived, a 17-year-old was on the ground with a group of friends nearby, according to Watkins.
The youth, who was supposedly struck by the shot in the abdomen area, gave police a description of a gray car in the vicinity after the shot was fired.
“Nobody seemed extraordinarily concerned,” Watkins said.
“The kid was on the ground tweeting to his friends that he was shot,” Watkins said.
The teen was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center and later transferred by ambulance to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
The teen’s injuries were not life threatening, according to Watkins.
No arrests have been made.
“We’re still investigating to see whether the juvenile’s statements are plausible or whether this is a potentially accidental shooting,” Watkins said.
