15-year-old girl charged over threatening letter about Christmas lights

ELYRIA — A 15-year-old girl was charged with disorderly conduct after police discovered she wrote a threatening letter to a woman about the Christmas lights on her home.

Capt. Chris Costantino said the girl is facing a disorderly conduct charge, and a hearing will be held in juvenile court.

The girl is accused of leaving a note in the mailbox, asking homeowner Rosemary Oneal to take her Christmas lights down. Oneal felt threatened by the letter, according to a police report, which read:

*NOTICE*

Please take your damn Christmas lights down. Christmas and New years have already passed and is no where near [sic]. I’m tired of seein’ that s—. Don’t make me tell you again. Thanks n—–.

Your black neighbors.

The girl, whose mother lived in the area, was familiar with the home, but she didn’t know the homeowner, said Costantino.

“She thought it was going to be funny, but after she saw it on the news, she realized it was not so funny,” he said.
