WESTLAKE — A Westlake man was hospitalized after he crashed the SUV he was driving following a police pursuit.
Corey Schoenberger, 38, of Westlake man was observed driving in and out of parking lots in the Crocker Road area just after midnight overnight, according to police. After committing a number of moving violations, a Westlake police officer attempted to stop him.
He fled westbound, however, on Clemens Road and then northbound on Bradley Road into Bay Village, going airborne crossing the railroad tracks. At the intersection of Lake Road, he failed to negotiate a turn and hit a fence and a tree, police said.
Schoenberger was taken to St. John Medical Center by the Bay Village Fire Department, where he remains under investigation. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, and he is not under arrest.
A temporary license plate stolen on March 6 from an Elyria woman’s 1994 Ford SUV was found on the SUV he was driving. Items in that vehicle have tentatively been linked to a theft from auto reported at a hotel in the area where he was first spotted. A search warrant is being sought to recover more suspected stolen property from his vehicle.
Schoenberger may be considered for charges including traffic violations, receiving stolen property and felony fleeing, police said.
