Karla M. (Poulsen) Schworer

Karla M. (Poulsen) Schworer, 95, of LaPorte, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, after complications of a stroke. She was born November 5, 1917 in Rocky River, to her parents, Niels Peter and Andersine Kristine Poulsen.

She lived briefly in Denmark as a young child before returning to the states. She was a graduate of Elyria High School. Karla worked on her parent’s vegetable and pansy farm and later at Grafton Sparkle Market until her retirement. She had a passion for traveling and visited much of the United States and Europe. She was a wonderful gardener and could often be found tending her flower and vegetable beds. She always had a good book to read and never hesitated when asked to attend school programs of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She accompanied her husband, Lewis to many steam engine shows throughout Ohio during the summer.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen (Michael) Anderton of Sandusky; grandchildren, Katherine (Patrick) Conley of Milan, Jeffrey (Christine) Krupp of Vermilion, Susan (Tom) Justavick of Brook Park, Christopher (Erin) Schworer of Vermilion; great grandchildren, Tabitha, Gwen, Kaitlyn, Tommy, Alyssia, CJ, and Andrew; step granddaughters, Michelle Anderton of Columbus and Julie (Sean) Renner of North Canton; sister-in-law, Marjorie Poulsen; daughter-in- law, Sarah (Robert) Collingwood; as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis in 1987; son, Earl Lewis in 1980; grandson, Earl, Jr. in 2000; a brother, Oswald; as well as her parents.

Friends may call at the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, on Monday, March 11, 2013 from 9:30 A.M. until time of service at 11 A.M. Reverend Jerald Fenske, Pastor, of St. Stephen United Church of Christ in Sandusky will officiate. Burial will be in Nesbett Cemetery, Grafton Township.
