Richard A. Broege, 76, of rural Ashland, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Hospice House of North Central Ohio. On May 27, 1936 in Cleveland, Mr. Broege was born to Franklin and Virginia (nee Harper) Broege. He had been a resident of Ashland County the past 20 years moving here from Rochester, New York.
Mr. Broege retired after eight years driving with Lake Front Trailways. Formerly he was employed for 30 years as a Marketing Development Manager with General Motors. Mr. Broege was a member of First Baptist Church of Ashland, DeMolay, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees. He had been a football player in high school and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Broege is survived by his wife, Jane S. (nee Batdorf) of Ashland, whom he married January 8, 1956; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Robert Hasl of Prospect, Kentucky; son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Laurie Broege of Toole, Utah; grandchildren, Brian, Eric, Brooke, and Mark Hasl, all of Prospect, Kentucky and Brittany Leigh Broege of San Antonio, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and John Nesbett of Wellington; nieces, Maryann Nesbett of Spencer and Carol A. (Frederick) Shearer of Niles, Michigan; and his special friend, Tucker (his dog).
Mr. Broege was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Bruce.
Services will be held 11 A.M., Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Heyl Funeral Home, 227 Broad St., Ashland, with Pastor Butch White officiating. Interment will be at Imhoff Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service Tuesday from 10 to 11 A.M. in the funeral home.
