Elizabeth J. Pollock, 81, of Wakeman, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, following a long illness. She was born September 16, 1931 in Fresno, Ohio and has lived in the Wakeman area for 57 years.
She graduated from Fresno High School as valedictorian in 1949, and The Ohio State University in 1953. She taught elementary school in West Lafayette and Elyria, from 1951-1958. She was a member of the Birmingham United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the 12 O’Clock Club. She enjoyed reading mysteries, watching the Cleveland Indians, Browns, and OSU football, visiting with family and friends and her pet cats.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Hornyak of Wakeman, Douglas Hornyak of Dayton, and Scott (Valerie) Hornyak of Wakeman; step-sons, Gary (Sandra) Pollock of Severna Park, Maryland, and Jeffrey (Deborah) of Aurora; brother, Donald (Denise) Burkey of Elyria; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Louis Hornyak in 1985; her second husband, Joseph Pollock in 2003; her parents, James and Esther (Amacher) Burkey; and a brother, John Burkey.
Friends may call Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 12 Noon until the time of services at 2 P.M. at the Birmingham United Methodist Church on South Street in Birmingham. Pastor Dick Kretchmar will be officiating. Burial will follow at Birmingham Cemetery.
