ELYRIA — The Elyria Police Department released its list of high-enforcement areas during St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
The department will conduct blitz patrols this weekend on state Routes 57, 113, 301, U.S. Route 20, Lake Avenue and Broad Street. The enforcement efforts will concentrate on drivers who are impaired, under suspension or have seat belt violations.
The Police Department was awarded $44,977 in federal traffic safety funding for increased enforcement in an effort to reduce the number of alcohol-related fatal and serious injury crashes. The department focuses on targeting high accident areas during various holidays and times when alcohol consumption may be common.
The funds are passed through the Office of Criminal Justice Services from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
