Betty H. Huffman (nee Kochis), 93, a resident of Amherst, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, after a sudden illness. Betty was born in Lorain, October 26, 1919, to the late Frank and Mary (nee Nemeth) Kochis.
She was a 1938 graduate of Lorain High School. During the 1950s, Betty was employed at the former Elyria Lace Factory and American Greetings, Oberlin. Throughout her life, Betty enjoyed crafts of all kinds. An avid sports fan, she loved the Cleveland Indians and Browns. In the past, Betty was a golfer. In retirement, Betty and her late husband William, traveled and spent the winters in Florida. Betty’s family was the center of her life. While her grandchildren and great grandchildren were growing up, she attended their school plays and functions and always rooted for them at their baseball games. She was a former member of American Legion Post 118 Auxiliary, and Amherst Eagles Aerie 1442.
Survivors include sons, William of Amherst, Calvin (Judy) of Higginsport, Douglas (Mary) of Ripley; grandchildren, Beth Nagy of Brunswick, Barb (Brian) Bowman of Amherst, and Jason, Jeremy, and Matthew Huffman; and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William A. Huffman (1994); her daughter-in-law, Betty K. Huffman (2004); granddaughter, Bonnie Csubak (2010); sisters, Margaret and Lillian Kochis; and her beloved dog, and companion PePe.
Family will receive friends Thursday, March 14, 2013, from 4 to 8 P.M., at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst. The funeral service will be 11 A.M., Friday, March 15, 2013, at the funeral home with Reverend James N. Greenawalt officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery, Amherst.
In Betty’s honor, memorials may be made to the Betty K. Huffman Memorial Scholarship Fund, at any branch of Lorain National Bank.
