For the third straight year, the Chronicle-Telegram sports department has earned national honors in the Associated Press Sports Editors contest and is a finalist in several categories in the state Associated Press Managing Editors contest.
The C-T picked up a top 10 in the daily sports section category from the APSE among newspapers with circulations under 30,000. The C-T earned the same honor two years ago and earned a top 10 for Sunday sections last year.
This year the C-T also received honorable mention (top 20) honors for Sunday sections and special sections. It’s the second year in a row it has had a top 10 and two honorable mentions.
In the state contest, the C-T has two of the three final entries in the sports event coverage category and is also a finalist in the special section and daily section categories in Division III, which includes papers with daily circulations from 13,000 to 24,999.
C-T assistant sports editor Scott Petrak is also a finalist in three writing categories in the state contest: columns, features and best sports writer.
The winners in the state contest will be announced at the APME’s annual convention May 19 in Columbus.
