Walter Lawrence Carr

Walter Lawrence Carr, 81, of Elyria died at his home Thursday, March 14, 2013. Mr. Carr was born February 2, 1932, in Decota, West Virginia, and made his home in Elyria for most of his life.

A graduate in 1951 of Sherman High School in Seth, West Virginia, he served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Carr was employed at U.S. Steel for 32 years. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, in North Ridgeville, and worked in later years as a school crossing guard. He enjoyed baseball, football, wrestling, gardening, traveling, and working on cars.

Mr. Carr is survived by his loving wife and caretaker, Anna M. Carr (nee Luczko); stepson, Douglas Secrist of Elyria; stepdaughter, Diane Smith of Elyria; two grandchildren, Robert Smith and Kassandra Secrist; and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Shirley Carr of Seth, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a stepson, Donald Secrist; four brothers, Marcus, Robert, Edward and Eugene Carr; sister, Vivian Brown; grandson, Michael Smith; and his parents, Monroe and Virgie (nee Stover) Carr.

Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Sunday, March 17, 2013, from 5 until 8 P.M. Funeral services will be in the funeral home Monday, March 18, 2013, at 11 A.M., with Pastor Dennis White, of Grace Baptist Church, officiating. Burial, with full military honors, provided by VFW Post 9871, will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
