Ella M. Giles, 71, of Toledo, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Flower Hospital, Toledo, after a long illness. She was born June 8, 1941 in Norwood, Louisiana to Stafford and Alice (nee Mayhall) Stewart.
She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Ella was a 1960 graduate of Jackson High School, Jackson, Louisiana, and moved to Elyria, shortly thereafter. She graduated in 1963 from Beatrice Academy of Beauty and became a licensed cosmetologist. She was also employed as a teller at National City Bank and was later promoted to assistant manager.
Ella married Andrew J. Giles May 29, 1976. They lived in Elyria for 13 years, until her husband’s job transferred her family to Toledo in 1989.
As a young lady, Ella was a pianist, and played for many of her community’s churches. She also loved crocheting, gardening, and was an avid reader.
Ella is survived by her husband, Andrew; daughter, Lorita; sisters, Alice (Utron) Crook, Julia (James) Patton; brothers, Stafford (Jo-Ann) Stewart and Jack Stewart of Elyria; aunt, Lillie Mae Richards of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Stafford Stewart in 1981; mother, Alice (nee Mayhall) Stewart in 2007; her first husband, William V. Springfield; and a special aunt, Mary Ella Gray.
Friends will be received Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 11 A.M. until the time of funeral service at 12 Noon, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1611 Middle Ave., Elyria. Pastor Monique Greenfield will officiate, with Pastor Arnett Thornton delivering the Eulogy. Interment will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
