Police chief’s wife pleads no contest to theft charge


AVON LAKE — Elaine Freeman, the wife of North Ridgeville Police Chief Mike Freeman, pleaded no contest today to a theft charge stemming from her November arrest for shoplifting at the Target store in Avon.

Elaine Freeman was ordered to pay a $250 fine and given a 30-day suspended jail sentence during her appearance in Avon Lake Municipal Court.

She was arrested Nov. 19 stealing health and beauty products and taken to the Avon Police Department. Her husband was later reprimanded for his angry response when he came to pick her up.
