Ida P. Vavzincak (nee Janowicz), 96, of Elyria, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Center Ridge Health Campus in North Ridgeville, following a brief illness. She was born October 20, 1916 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania and was an Elyria resident for most of her life.
Ida was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Elyria, a lifetime member of the former Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society of Holy Cross. She was also a member of the Elyria United Polish Club, where she enjoyed working the weekly fish fries and participated in the Elyria Parks and Recreation Department active adults program. She also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas.
Survivors include her daughters, Felicia Vavzincak and Florence (Garry) Wilson, both of Elyria, Victoria (Dennis) Culler of Lexington, Ohio, Sylvia (Robert) Pajor of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Helen (Steve) Summer of Norton,Ohio; son, Thomas (Kathleen) Vavzincak of Elyria; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and brother, Henry Janowicz of Elyria.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Vavzincak in 1994; sister, Mary Urig; and brothers, Joe, Edward, John, Vic, Ben “Smoke”, and Frank Janowicz.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 25, 2013, 4 until 6 P.M., at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Closing prayers will be Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at 9:30 A.M., in the funeral home, followed by a 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria. The Reverend Father Eric Culler, Mrs. Vavzinck’s grandson and the Reverend Father Charles Diedrick, Pastor, will Con-Celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
