County announces location for veterans’ transitional housing

LORAIN — The county’s new transitional housing facility for veterans in need will be at a 21,000-square-foot building now owned by Mercy Regional Medical Center at the corner of 21st Street and Reid Avenue.

The location, announced today, replaces where the Valor Home was originally supposed to be built at St. Joseph Community Center. The financial uncertainty swirling around St. Joe’s led the veterans group behind the Valor Home to seek a new location. The location is connected to St. Joe’s by a walkway.

The facility won’t open until after significant renovations have been completed.

Committee Vice Chairman Dan Gillotti said that several existing tenants at the medical office building, including Mercy’s infectious disease program and the Lorain County Task Force on Aging, will remain in the two-story building.
