Cleveland Orchestra receives $10 million grant

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Orchestra is getting a $10 million grant from a charitable group that supports community organizations.

The Plain Dealer reports the grant from The Cleveland Foundation will fund daily operations and programming planning.

The orchestra’s executive director, Gary Hanson, says the grant also provides some momentum for a campaign leading up to the centennial in 2018.

The foundation’s president says that the orchestra is in “a pivotal time” and that the grant reflects the orchestra’s attempts to broaden its audiences and partnerships.

The newspaper says the grant is the largest ever to an arts organization from the nearly century-old foundation.
