Man wounded by gunshot to chin

ELYRIA — An 87-year-old man was in critical condition Saturday night after being shot under his chin earlier in the day.

Elyria police Sgt. Lee Frank said officers were sent to 101 Carriage Court at 10:11 a.m. Saturday for a report of a man bleeding from the nose.

When officers arrived, they found Wesley Blaylock, who lives at the residence, injured and bleeding. Blaylock was transported to EMH Elyria Medical Center where he was treated before being transferred to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Frank said medical personnel discovered that Blaylock had been shot under the chin.

Police recovered a small-caliber handgun from the scene, but Franks said he couldn’t release additional details because the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.

No one else was injured in the incident, he said.
