Dolores “Lily” Diaz (nee Estrada), 84, of Lorain, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Wednesday April 3, 2013 at the home of her daughter, Cindy, following an extended illness. Lily was born in Lorain on November 4, 1928 and remained a life long resident of the city.
Devoted to her family, she enjoyed working with ceramics and flower gardening. She also liked cooking, and especially preparing and sharing Mexican food with her relatives and friends. Mrs. Diaz was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Chapel, and worked as a volunteer with the S.P.C.A. of Lorain County .
Survivors include her daughters, Joyce (John) Oliger of Columbus, Cynthia (Thomas) Bisgrove of Elyria, Georgette (Robert) McGarvey of Wakeman; and sons, Salvador J. “Sal” (Pam) Diaz of Elyria and David (Gladys) Diaz of Lorain. She also leaves seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; her brother, Anastasio Estrada, Jr. residing in Treasure Island, Florida; and sisters, Josephine (John) Malinovski of Lorain, and Hope Quercio of Carson City, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvador Diaz, Sr., in 1990; and by sisters, Emma Zapata and Theresa Queiruga.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M., in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain, where funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10:30 A.M., with Reverend John C. Retar, Pastor of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
