Carl E. Pettry, 58, of Oberlin, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at his residence, after a lengthy illness. Carl was born in Cleveland on June 6, 1954. He was Baptized at the Jesus Church in Cleveland.
Carl proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He attended college and studied massotherapy. Carl was a member of the American Legion Post 8 in Wellington and the Masons in Lodi. He was employed as a Lodi police officer and NCCTF correction officer. Carl enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and practicing ju jitsu with his grandson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debra (nee Wilson) Pettry; children, William (April) Pettry, Cathy (Bill) Naylor, Tausha McGlugritch and Ben Coker, Scott (Alisha) Wilson; grandchildren, Tori, Olivia and Noah Pettry, Summer and William Naylor, Tim and Catlin McGlugritch, Ava Coker, Harley and Haley Wilson; parents, Eugene and Reba (nee Dickens) Pettry; siblings, Bob and Cindy Pettry, Carol Flores, Sharon and Charles Favara.
He was preceded in death by his brother, David Pettry and grandparents, Edgar and Lenoa Dickens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 11 A.M. until the time of service at 1 P.M. at Wyers Funeral Chapel, 2900 North Ridge Road, Sheffield Township. Pastor Charles Favara will officiate. Interment will follow at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria with military honors.
