Paul L. “Pete” Johnson, 84, of Elyria, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at St. John Medical Center in Westlake.
Along with his late wife, Lois, Paul was a former charter member of Midview Baptist Church in Grafton, and he was a former member of First Baptist Church of Valley City. For the past several years, he was a devoted member of College Heights Baptist Church in Elyria, where he was affectionately known as “Poppy”. He was a man of great faith. Paul was an avid supporter of all the sports teams at First Baptist Christian School in Elyria. He also loved and followed his Kentucky Wildcats and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was born September 23, 1928 in Wiscoal, Kentucky and was a graduate of Carr Creak High School in Knott County, Kentucky. Paul was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and served during the Korean War. He worked for General Motors at the Brook Park/Parma plant for 39 years and retired in 1991. Paul was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle and a special friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay and Pearl (nee Hensley) Johnson; by his wife of nearly 61 years, Lois (nee Watts) in 2012; brother, Ted Johnson; and by two sisters, Sadie Walker and Ruth Nichols.
Paul is survived by his children, Brenda Milam (John) of Grafton, Mike Johnson (Barb) of Toledo, Greg Johnson (Karen) of Edmund, Oklahoma and Melissa Kennedy (Chuck) of Elyria; grandchildren, Kevin Johnson (Brittany), Kyle and Kris Johnson, Matt Johnson (Dana), Shawna Johnson (Kyle), Katie Schaff (Dave), Travis Kennedy and Brandon Chastain; great grandchildren, Madison, Deloy, Carter, Graham and Milam; by a nephew, Ken Johnson (Ann); and by a niece, Judy Adams.
Friends may join Paul’s family to celebrate his life Monday, April 15, 2013 from 3 to 8 P.M., at College Heights Baptist Church, 980 N. Abbe Rd., Elyria. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 10 A.M., at the church. Pastor Darrell Deer will officiate. A committal service with full military honors will be held on Tuesday at 2:30 P.M., at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

Paul’s memory will live on through the many lives he touched. His Godly example of love and encouragement, guidance and prayer has made us who we are today. Thank you for enriching our lives Poppy.
