Rhea M. Cowie, 94, life long resident of Rochester Township, died Thursday morning, April 11, 2013 at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk. She was born July 9, 1918 in Rochester, to the late Jesse and Edith (Storrow) Knapp.
She was a 1936 graduate of Brighton High School. Rhea took great pride in working the family farm. Her most important role though, was that of a mother, grandmother and homemaker. Rhea’s hands were those of a doer, and enjoyed working outdoors on a warm sunny day. Rhea was a life long member of the Rochester Untied Methodist Church and the Rochester Historical Society.
Rhea will be dearly missed by her loving children, Gerald Cowie and JoAnn Cowie both of Rochester Twp.; three grandsons, Chris (Karen) and their children, Justin and Sarah Cowie, Shawn Cowie and Randy (Tiffany) Cowie and their children, Taylor, Mason and Cole Cowie; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Cowie; brothers, Wade and Carl Knapp; Rhea’s twin sister, Ruth Mourton; and sister, Nora Jeanette Harwood.
Rhea’s family will greet friends from 6 to 9 P.M. Monday, April 15, 2013 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London and a service will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, April 16, 2013 with Pastor Tina Siroki officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Rochester.
