The red, blue and green lines were shut down after a suspicious package was found at the East 55th Street station before 9 a.m. The bomb squad was called to the scene.
RTA posted on Facebook that they were given the “all clear” about noon and thanked users for their patience.
According to Cleveland police, “The Cleveland Division of Police Bomb Squad responded to the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority rapid transit station at East 55/Woodland to assist GCRTA PD with a suspicious duffle bag. After a thorough investigation, the duffel bag was found to contain only personal items.”
Shuttle buses helped to transport RTA passengers, Mary Shaffer said.
Around the country, extra security procedures are being taken following yesterday’s deadly bombing at the Boston Marathon. Shaffer did not say if the Cleveland precautions were believed to be related or a reaction to the Boston explosions.
