Kerry Manion, chief humane agent for Capital Area Humane Society in Columbus, said the kittens were in a box with their mother near the back patio of a home. The mother cat jumped out and survived, but the kittens died.
Karen Minton, Ohio director for the national humane society, called the Saturday incident a “despicable crime.”
The Columbus Dispatch reports that police are investigating. An animal cruelty conviction carries a maximum penalty of six months in prison and a $1,000 fine.
