Leroy R. Berthold, 71, of Grafton, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013 at J.P.S. Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, following a sudden illness. He was born December 15, 1941 in Elyria and was a lifelong Elyria area resident.
Leroy worked as a machinist at the Nordson Corporation in Amherst for 21 years, retiring in 2004. Prior to Nordson, he worked at Bendix-Westinghouse for many years. He served in the Ohio National Guard, was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton, the Elyria United Polish Club, American Legion Post 12, V.F.W. Post 1079, Elyria AMVETS Post 32 and enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Betty (nee McCallie); daughter, Debbie (Matt) Hamilton of Suffern, New York; sons, Michael (Trica) Fine of Vacaville, California, Michael Berthold of Florida, and Joseph (Cary) Berthold of LaGrange; grandchildren, Emma, Jessica, Jacob, Natalie and Lila.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Margaret (nee Ternes); and a brother, Clarence “Bud” Berthold.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 19, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. Closing prayers will be Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 9:30 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by a 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial in the Chapel of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 708 Erie St., Grafton. The Rev. John P. Seabold, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
