Eleanor A. West

Eleanor A. West, 77, of Columbus, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 following a courageous battle with cancer. Ellie was born November 17, 1935 in Bryan, Ohio to Elwin and Pauline Newcomer.

She was predeceased by husband, Roy A. West; and brothers, Paul and Condit Newcomer.

She is survived by children, Lynne E. West, Brad (Becky) West, Stanton (Lucy) West and Blake (Kim) West; grandchildren, Hunter, Annie, Wyatt, Samuel, Allyson, Archie and Samantha West; brother, Kermit (Barbara) Newcomer; and sister, Harriet Stutzman.

Ellie graduated from Bryan High School in 1953 and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from Ohio State University in 1957, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women. Later, she earned a second degree, becoming a Certified Public Accountant.

She was a summer resident of Lakeside, Ohio, a place she loved since childhood. She leaves many close friends there, as well as in her previous residences in Elyria, Westlake, Skidaway Island, Savannah, Georgia; and most recently Westminster Thurber Community in Columbus.

Ellie had many passions in life, her family and friends foremost, and her love of music, travel, reading, gardening and the Ohio State Buckeyes. She was a talented quilter, and her handwork will provide a lasting legacy for many family members and friends.

A celebration of Ellie’s life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013 in Lakeside, Ohio. A private interment will be held at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria.
