12-year-old from Midview died after hanging, coroner’s office says

A 12-year-old Grafton boy died early Tuesday morning at University Hospitals Case Medical Center.

Jacob Miska died at 1:45 a.m. from a brain injury secondary to hanging, according to Cuyahoga County Coroner’s spokesman Powell Caesar. His death has been ruled a suicide.

Miska was brought to the Cleveland hospital shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday from St. John Medical Center.

Additional details about his death are not available.

Midview Superintendent John Kuhn said Monday that a student from East Intermediate School was involved in an accident over the weekend and as a result counselors were brought to the school.

“I was alerted Sunday that there was a terrible accident, but I don’t know the specifics,” he said Monday. “I was told the student was in grave condition, and I needed to be prepared at the school.”

Kuhn said counselors from the Lorain County Schools Crisis Counseling Team were brought in.

Kuhn could not be reached for additional comment.
