New principal chosen for Oberlin elementary school

Oberlin Schools has named a new principal for Eastwood Elementary School.

Susan Alig comes from Shaker Heights Schools, where she has worked since 1990 as a teacher, staff assistant, assistant principal and principal, according to an email from Oberlin Superintendent John Schroth.

She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and Spanish from John Carroll University and master’s of education in administration from Cleveland State University. Last year she completed the international baccalaureate certificate in teacher and learning from Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.

Alig will be taking over for retiring Principal Robert Rybak, who has led Eastwood since the 2009-2010 school year.

“Mr. Rybak has done wonderful job at Eastwood,” Schroth said. “His focus and expertise on early childhood literacy has positioned the building to tackle the challenges ahead with the Third Grade Guarantee and the new Teacher Evaluation System.”

Alig will be spending some time at Eastwood this spring and will take the reigns this summer, Schroth said.
