Elyria parking tickets against two attorneys dropped

ELYRIA — Prosecutors dropped parking tickets against two local attorneys who contend they were parked in their spots for less than two hours when they were given the tickets earlier this month for violating the two-hour parking limit.

Both Wayne Nicol and former Lorain County Domestic Relations Judge David Berta brought documentation backing up their stories to what was supposed to be their arraignments this morning.

John Keys, an Elyria city prosecutor, said after he saw the evidence he agreed to drop the tickets.

“If we can’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they committed the violation we have the discretion to dismiss,” Keys said.

Attorneys have complained in recent weeks about the tickets being issued in downtown Elyria by the city’s new parking enforcement officer, Nathan Kwilecki.
