Lorain man in critical condition after motorcycle crash Saturday

VERMILION TWP. — A Lorain motorcyclist was critically injured around 6:40 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 6 near the intersection of Poorman Road.

William Singer, 72, of the 2800 block of G Street, had stopped his motorcycle to retrieve a bandana that had blown off while riding, according to Chief Deputy Jared Oliver of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office. Singer was struck from behind by a westbound car driven by Julian Kolke, 46, of the 6500 block of Poorman Road North. Singer was in critical condition this morning at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Oliver said Sunday that he talked to deputy Johann Matute who investigated the crash. Oliver said Kolke said she was driving about 45 mph and didn’t see Singer and Singer’s unidentified female passenger. Oliver said the passenger wasn’t seriously injured and Kolke, who was making a left turn onto Poorman, was uninjured.

Matute’s crash report said Kolke was following too closely. Oliver said no charges have been filed, but the crash remains under investigation.
