ELYRIA — About 150 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from a tractor trailer around 5:35 p.m. Thursday in the eastbound lane of the Ohio Turnpike, east of the Elyria interchange, according to Elyria fire Capt. Kevin Szabo.
A fuel tank fell off the truck and broke, Szabo said. Firefighters used absorbent material to soak up the spill, which took nearly 90 minutes.
Szabo said he notified the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
An EPA spokesman didn’t return a call Thursday night.
