Man arrested after chase through city

ELYRIA — An Elyria man was arrested after he allegedly led police on a high speed chase through the city.

Elyria police Lt. William Pelko said the chase began at 9:36 a.m. after an officer tried to pull over Harry Stevenson, 32, who had expired plates on his vehicle. Pelko said Stevenson refused to stop at Furnace Street and Bell Avenue, and he led police on a chase through the city.

Stevenson, who traveled past the police station at one point, was stopped at Frank Court, near his home. He was apprehended after he jumped out of his car and tried to run.

Pelko said several Elyria police officers were involved in the chase, and he believed detectives in the area assisted as well.

Stevenson was charged with expired plates, driving under suspension, reckless operation, failure to comply with the order of a police officer, resisting arrest and obstructing official business.

He was taken to Lorain County Jail.
