Donald Hollingshead, 90, of LaGrange, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, at Medina Hospital. Don was born August 22, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late William G. and Grace (Briggs) Hollingshead.
Don retired from General Motors, Flint Michigan Plant in 1977, where he was a truck driver for the Chevrolet Plant; he logged in over 10 million miles without incident. Don was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 – 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his “Courageous and Untiring” efforts in handling supplies on Okinawa under continuous enemy artillery and also holds the Combat Infantrymen’s Badge. Don enjoyed bowling, wood working and spending time with his grandson, Nicholas. He was a member of the Litchfield United Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda (Ponte); children, Pam Hahn, Lynn Melnick and Robert Shaffer; grandchildren, Nicholas Hahn, Jamie Sampson, Duane Cox and Heather Shaffer; and four great grandchildren.
Burial, with military honors, will be 10 A.M., Tuesday, May 21, 2013, Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. A memorial service and luncheon will follow at 11:30 A.M., at Litchfield United Church of Christ, 3928 Avon Lake Rd., Litchfield 44254.
